The problem:
Suppose you want to test historical tick or minute data from 2 months ago. In order to test one week from 2 months ago, ActTrader requires that you download all the data from 2 months ago right up to the present. Two months of tick or minute historical data is a very large amount of data. It uses a lot of bandwidth to download. It bogs your whole computer system down.
The solution:
In the ActTrader tester, under the "Test" tab, add a second box following the "Start history test from (days ago):" box. The instructions for this box might read "Download historical data for (number of days):" or "End history test at (days ago):."
This would limit the amount of historical data being downloaded.
If a Trader wanted to test every week for the last 2 months, he could do it in chunks - one week at a time. It would still use the bandwidth, but not all at once. The computer system could handle the data much easier, a little at a time.
